From the publisher website or publicity Online appointment booking with EMIS Access EMIS Access enables patients to book appointments at their GP surgery over the Internet. The project is proving particularly popular with the 'silver surfers', as Internet enabled pensioners have no difficulty using the easy to follow screens. Patients are comfortable to view, book, or cancel appointments online and find it very useful for those times when the practice is closed or phone lines are busy. The website has been carefully designed for ease of use for all types of people and as many different browsers as possible. It is even possible to use EMIS Access from some mobile phones. Future possibilities include using Access from touch screens in the surgery or through interactive TV at home. Patient queries The newest feature for Access practices is a patient query system. Patients submit their questions via a form on the website to the practice, where a designated person replies. Queries can also be passed on to another member of staff for special attention. This frees up the reception telephone from routine enquiries and allows them to be dealt with when the practice is quieter. Unlike e-mail, Access messages are encrypted across the network. Not all practices will want to offer every feature, so EMIS Access modules can be turned on or off at will by a configuration option in EMIS. Future developments Forthcoming features of Access include a page for a patient to add or correct their address details, including mobile phone and e-mail, or to change their address - subject to approval by the practice. Another much requested feature is repeat prescription requesting for patients and this is under development. It is hoped to add these features to the beta test later in the summer. EMIS Access is on general release to all practices using EMIS LV5.2. |
