Control and Predictability Through Clarity from Niku

Clarity from Niku marries the strategic to the tactical. It couples top-down portfolio planning and analysis with bottom-up project, program, financial and process management. The result is a seamlessly integrated system for IT Management and Governance (IT-MG), New Product Development (NPD) and Professional Services Automation (PSA). Clarity gives executives a real time view into their organization's investments, initiatives and resources, and empowers managers to deliver controlled and predictable execution of projects and programs.

Deliver Clarity Through Personalized Dashboards

Nine Modules in the Clarity System

Created in a modern web services architecture, the Clarity system is comprised of nine modules, five of which are used by people throughout an organization, while the others are used to configure and extend the system, automate processes with workflows, and to seamlessly integrate with adjacent systems. The system's modular structure enables phased implementations that can be as small as 20 users focusing on portfolio management or as extensive as 100,000 users utilizing all aspects of the system.

Executive Dashboard for Portfolio Decision Making

Portfolio Management has its roots in financial portfolio management, where investments are inventoried, grouped by value class, scrutinized based on real and projected return, and stratified by risk. Applied to an enterprise's program and system investments, portfolio management provides the framework for structured and rational investment decision making, and for highly productive communications to all stakeholders. Clarity's Portfolio Management module provides the executive dashboard and 'what-if' capabilities for world class decision making.

Execute with Precision

Portfolio Management is about selecting the right things to do. Project, program and initiative management is about doing them right. Clarity from Niku marries Portfolio Management to project, program and initiative management to ensure that decisions that emerge from Portfolio Management are not undermined by poor execution. Clarity ensures that programs are delivered on-time, on-budget and on-target.

Robust Planning and Financial Management

Executing on investment decisions requires a considerable amount of support and accounting. Resources are a scarce commodity, especially given that specialized skill sets are so often required. Tracking resource usage, then accounting and billing for costs, are necessary financial management elements and are increasingly required for regulatory compliance. Clarity offers robust Resource Planning and Financial Management modules for these vital requirements.

Clarity includes nine modules supported by core services and a web services architecture.

Portfolio Manager

Portfolio Manager enables the enterprise to align resources and investments with corporate goals. This provides a structured environment for deciding which projects, programs and initiatives to fund, which to sustain and which to eliminate.

Resource Planner

Resource Planner provides a solution to plan and manage resource capacity and balance it against work demand. The Resource Planner modules provides capacity planning, skills management, resource search and qualification, staff requisitions, and resource reporting.

Project Manager

The Project Manager module provides a rich set of functionality for project management, collaboration, reporting and business process management to ensure that corporate best practices and methodologies are adhered to, optimal plans are produced, communication barriers are eliminated and projects are executed with precision.

Demand Manager

The new Demand Manager module gives IT executives a holistic view of all demand points, including project work, service work and incident driven requests, making it possible to strike a dynamic balance among them. Demand Manager also links to the Resource Planner and Financial Manager modules of Clarity to provide complete insight into how staff time is spent on both project and service-oriented work, resulting in accurately forecasted future resource requirements, and better cost of ownership tracking of existing systems.

Financial Manager

Wherever project transactions originate, Financial Manager can capture, cost, and account for them. Sophisticated categorization functionality allows segregation of capitalized expenditures from expenses for appropriate financial reporting and compliance with SOP 98-1. Financial Manager's charge-back functionality allows transactions from internally-funded projects to be mapped to and allocated across business units and departments, providing equitable distribution of project costs.

Process Manager

The Process Manager module allows all business processes to be managed as a unified whole, making it easier to optimize business processes and standardize them across the entire organization. Because Process Manager offers the ability to manage all the characteristics inherent in a process, business processes become more automated, adaptable, cohesive, collaborative and reusable. The results are increased business agility and lower process costs.

Clarity StudioTM

Clarity Studio allows power users to configure Clarity to function the way their organization does work. Building on the extensibility of the Clarity's G2000 Architecture, Clarity Studio provides the tools to add custom fields and forms, as well as build custom portlets, pages, and menus that deliver visibility and access to the information that is important for each user, from project manager to CEO.

Schedule Connect

Schedule Conn ect provides seamless bidirectional integration between Clarity and the two leading desktop project scheduling tools, Open Workbench and Microsoft Project.

Service Connect

The Service Connect family includes a series of pre-built integration connectors to popular IT Service Management systems such as Remedy Help Desk.

Supporting these nine modules are the Open Workbench desktop scheduling application, the Clarity Core services and Clarity's G2000 Architecture.
