Apple Computer has launched the latest incarnation of its iMac desktop computer, yesterday.

The launch was admittedly 2 months behind schedule.

Rebuilt around Apples G5 processor, the unit has physically been altered. Disk drives, processor and other compenents into the screen, which is only 2 inches thick.

Apple clearly hopes to build on the success of its iconic iPod, to revitalise the computing side of its business.

The aim is to convert PC/Windows based users.

The basic model starts at $1,299 , high in comparison to entry level PCs. This will be important in the "back to school" market. A loss of $100m could be the result of the late launch.

IBM was blamed for the late running of the launch. They supply the semiconductors for the machines.
