Students Loans Missing Thousands of UK students face starting University without a loan. Following IT problems at the Student Loans Company. The system cost £30m. Contingency plans are in place by the government.
Immigration outsources infrastructure The Immigration and Nationality Directorate has outsourced management and development of its infrastructure.
The deal, worth £200m is with Atos Origin. Covered are networks, helpdesks and applications. Atos will design, build and operate the infrastructure.
Previous IT adventures by the Home Office, of which Immigration is a department, have been notable in lack of success. In 2001 a system to clear the backlog of asylum seekers was cancelled.
