UK Government Discloses Vulnerabilities

The UK Government is to release details of security vulnerabilties to key organisations. The information is to be considered confidential until suppliers have created fixes.

In the week that saw the might Google search engine brought low by a virus, the move seems prescient

A Home Office section, the National Information Co-ordination Centre (NISCC) will confide in organisations running essential services such as, transport, health, finance and telecoms.

The NISCC will be collaborate with private sector security specialists.

Hackers now take days rather than weeks to pounce on vulnerabilities and produce viruses.

To avoid giving away information that might be useful to hackers, this will be stripped away. Instead enough information will be given for companies to protect themselves, such as which ports to close.
