Transport Police Technology Groaning

The Government is today urged by by a major Police watchdog to improve the technology used by the British Transport Police (BTP).

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary found that the BTP's computer and telephone infrastructure "groaning".

The BTP, although often seen as the poor relation to mainstream policing is at the leading edge of preventing terrorism. Not least as they protect the London Underground system.

Indeed their radio equipment works in the tunnels, whilst the Met's fail.

Whilst defence against terror attacks is well prepared, the BTP would fare badly against a failure of telecoms or computers.
