The Biotechnology Industry is to discuss the effect of the Sarbanes-Oxley on smaller companies at its industry organisation CEO & Investor Conference.

The conference will feature a business roundtable on the impact of Section 404 of the Act. 404 deals with the attestation of management on the effectiveness of internal controls.

According to the Biotechnology Industry Organization the regulations require overly detailed internal controls of financial transactions and auditing procedures.

Sarbanes-Oxley is a corporate governance law enforced by the Securities and Exchange Commission. (SEC).

On the panel will be Rick Brounstein, member of SEC Advisory Committee on Smaller Public Companies, and executive vice C16president of Calypte Biomedical Corp., of Lake Oswego, Ore.

Brounstein sits on the advisory committee organize by the SEC to consider ways of improving the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley on smaller companies.

The eighth annual Biotechnology Industry Organization CEO & Investor Conference takes place on Feb. 14-15, 2006, in New York City.
