Peregrine Systems a vendor of IT asset and service management software asked companies what they wanted for Christmas. Unsurprisingly they wanted asset management solutions to meet such compliance requirements as Sarbanes-Oxley. IT consulting resources, root cause analysis and business process management tools were also on the list. IT controls over the financial reporting system are an integral part of any internal control framework. Consequently assessing IT related internal controls for Section 404 purposes can be expensive. Companies can create and manage their software contracts to ensure compliance and avoid over-purchasing and automatically track license counts and detailed software installation. Software Asset Management can also automate the process of determining who is actually using software assets and automatically checks license availability before purchase of new ones and automates the asset retirement process, including license recapture upon disposal.
