General Motors is working towards all its IT suppliers incorporating the Capability Maturity Model for Integration (CPPI).

GM is working the CMMI's originators the Carnegie Mellon, Software Engineering Institute to bring about the certification.

A particular focus of GM's program will be on outsourcing which is not currently dealt with by the CMMI.

Centrepiece of the program will be GM's workstreams. These define common, repeatable and measurable working practices.

Details of the model will be made available to the public by the end of the first quarter of 2006.
