Chip Sales to Surge

Global chip sales are to reach $309bn in 2008 according to the Semiconductor Industry Association in its annual forecast.

The figure represents a compound increase of 10% a year from the $213bn from 2004.

2005 should see $227bn, an increase of 7%. Earlier in the year the forecast had been flat.

Mobile phones, media players, digital players and other consumer products will drive the increase.
