Intel has expanded its offering in the standards-based telecommunications arena. The company claims that manufacturers will find it easier to build flexible and scalable IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) equipment and services.

Three blades and related technology make up the second generation Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA).

The three blades are AdvancedTCA or telecom boards. These can be fitted onto a chassis or shelf. The Intel NetStructure® MPCBL0010 Single Board Computer, the Intel NetStructure® IXB28504xGbEFS Secure Packet Processing Blade and the Intel NetStructure® MPCMM0002 Chassis Management Module are designed for IMS applications, but can also be used in other network segments such as wired and wireless network management. For full technical details see Intel's press release.

AdvancedTCA is a series of industry standard specifications fro carrier-grade communications equipment. Incorporating high-speed interconnect, next generation processors and improved reliability, manageability and serviceability.

IMS architecture defines a set of industry-standard equipment, built on modular platforms such as AdvancedTCA.
