Two new platforms have been released by Intel. The company claims enhanced productivity for the home or office.

The Intel Pentium D processor is Intel's second dual-core processor.

Dual-core processors have a two pieces of silicon on each chip.

The Pentium D is matched with the Intel 945 Express chipset family. Together they promise enhanced mulitmedia applications.

The new Pentium D is cheaper in its 820, 830 and 840 variants than the first dual-core processor the Pentium Extreme Edition processor.

Dell, HP and Lenovo are all soon to start shipping Pentium D machines.

The second platform announced is the Intel Professional Business Platform. Advanced security, management and collaboration technologies are combined.

Part of the new platform is Intel Active Management Technology (AMT)

IT managers with AMT can install security patches and diagnose problems on all AMT enabled PCs. The platform works as long as the PCs are connected to the network, even if they are turned off, have a failed hard drive or operating system.

The platfrom is based on the 945G Express Chipset and the optional Intel PRO/1000 PM network adaptor.
