Qwest Pulls Plug on MCI War

Qwest has formally withdrawn from its attempt to takeover MCI. Arch-rival Verizon is now free to pursue its bid.

The MCI board has already recommended the lower Verizon bid.

Perceived financial stability rather than the amount, was the deciding factor for the MCI board. Qwest was seen as one of the weakest "baby bells".
