Car and truck firm, Volvo has started generating its own internal digital certificates for its encrypted e-mail system.

nShield, a hardware security module from nCipher is used to support the system.

Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Certificate Authority (CA) are held together by cryptograhphic keys. The new application will help to protect them.

Over 80,00 Volvo employees globally use the e-mail system. Volvo hopes to ensure strong authentication, encryption and message integrity to secure the service.
