Accenture, the consultancy firm involved heavily with NHS IT contracts, lost £13.3m on them in the last quarter.

The firm does not expect to make a profit on its NHS work until 2007.

The National Programme for IT for the NHS is costing the government £2.3bn, and is frequently quoted as the largest civilian IT project in Europe.

The first six months of NHS work, cost Accenture £21.1m. Full year losses may amount to £83.3m.

Poor performance on the NHS, helped to slash Accentures margins. Even so, group sales and profits were up for the second quarter.
