Computer Associates and Identity Management

Google

Computer Associate is to ramp up its identity management offerings.

Centrepiece is a new access management product, eTrust Cleanup, will aid systems administrators track and remove unused or rogue user IDs and access rights.

The increased complexity of organisation's IT infrastructure means that staff have multiple IDs across the system.

Typically a user has 16 assigned to them, however on leaving only 10 of them are fully removed on leaving the company, accourding to Meta Group analyst Earl Perkins.

Unused, obsolete or duplicate IDs mount up, because of changes in responsibilties, one-time access requests and contractors.

In my own experience, line managers will chase systems admin for a new password so staff can do their job. However they are never so conscientious when the staff member leaves.
