Telecom and ISP operators are to share profiles of perpetrators of global internet and infrastructure threats.

An impressive list of organisations including BT, Energis, MCI and CISCO have joined the Fingerprint Sharing Alliance.

The profiles consist of detailed network attack information. Sharing will in real-time and across business and network boundarie. The process is highly automated and should enable a much more pro-active response.

Head of network security at BT Telecom Wholesale, Dave Harcourt commented "This is very empowering to any service provider because it facilities a community for providers to get at the source of attack traffic and minimize the impact it has on everyone's networks and services"
