Google

Web www.software-risk.co.uk

One of eight processes in Prince2 involving gathering information and creating an organisation. At the end the project is in a fit state to move to the Initiating a Project process.

What
A number of Prince2 sub-processes make up Starting Up A Project:-

*   (SU1) - Appointing a Project Board Executive and Project Manager
*   (SU2) Designing a Project Management Team
*  (SU3) Appointing a Project Management Team
*  (SU4) Preparing a Project Brief
*  (SU5) Defining Project Approach
*  (SU6) Planning an Initiation Stage

Why
Prince2 seeks with this process to establish:-

*   Who will make the decisions
*  The product to be delivered (in broad terms)
*   The expected quality
*  Why the project should be done
*  Establish a risk log
*  How much effort it will take to plan the project.

When
At the very start of a project. It is anticipated the length taken for this process will be short in comparison to the length of the project.

How
Management products that arising from the process are:-

*  Executive and project management appointments (SU1)
*  Project Management Team Design (SU2)
*  Job Descriptions (SU3)
*  Project Brief (SU4)
*  Risk Log (SU4)
*  Project Approach (SU5)
*  Initiation Stage Plan(SU6)

As with a lot of frameworks the wise manager tries to steer away from ticking boxes. The process should be tailored to the project.
