Imagine trying to watch your favourite TV programme and instead the local police turn up!

That was the outcome of an unusual scam perpetrated on use of the MS WebTV service.

A Louisiana man, David Jeansonne has pleaded guilty to two counts of "intentionally damaging protec ted computers, causing a threat to public safety and losses of over $5,000"

The WebTV user received an email attachment from Jeansonne, that reprogrammed the WebTV box to call 911 instead of the number supplied. When he tries to log in to WebTV, he instead called the local police.

Whilst the numbers were not huge, it was sent to 20+ users, of whom 10 reported that the police called, it is still alarming.

Possible actions against Jeansonne are a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $250,000 fine.
