A new release of Microsoft CRM, the software giant's customer relationship management product, has been put off until the end of the year.
Version 2 had been due to ship next month. Microsoft gave the reason as it had decided develop the package further before any upgrade.
The product has had a troubled history since its launch in 2002. Indeed the upcoming release was to have been its first major overhaul.
Microsoft has been trying to make inroads into the SME market. CRM is part of the Business Solutions division. However BS has seen flat sales in the last quarter.
Coincidentally, a new general manager has been appointed by Microsoftf for CRM. Brad Wilson was a refugee from PeopleSoft after the Oracle takeover.
