Yahoo have launched a beta release of the Yahoo!Toolbar for the Mozilla Firefox web browser.
The fast growing browser is still a long way behind the market leader, Microsoft's Internet Explorer. However the new product will be one less reason not to switch.
Along with the Google toolbar, the Yahoo model aims to increase users customisation of the browser. Coincidentally users tend to end up at Yahoo content.
Functionality includes bookmarks that stick even if choice of browser changes, site centric searching, history and integration with Yahoo mail.
"Firefox has been downloaded more than 23 million times since its launch in November and the Yahoo! Toolbar release demonstrates the popularity of the browser and the success of the Mozilla platform. We're very pleased that Yahoo! is supporting browser choice and innovation with this new product," was the response of Mitchell Baker, president of the Mozilla Foundation.
Large scale beta testing is a feature amongst many of the big Internet groups. Yahoo is maybe a little behind great rival Google in the number of products in beta. For instance, Froogle, G-mail.
