Visa Restrictions A Disaster - Gates

Google

Web www.software-risk.co.uk

Visa restrictions imposed after the 11th September attacks have started to adversely affect the US software industry. The source of this assertion? Bill Gates.

Quoted by the FT, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he described the decline in numbers of foreign computing students as a "disaster".

The restrictions take the form of more intrusive checks, longer waits and visas cost more.

His comments follow on from those made by business school administrators. They have seen corresponding drops in foreign students as well.

"“There has been a 35 per cent drop in Asians coming to our computer science departments. It really is a very bad thing for a very key area.” he said.

He also complained about the number of students that take engineering degrees compared with India and China. 4% against 40%.
