Avis has cut fifteenfold, the length of time required to return a hire car. The result is a 20% reduction in complaints about returning cars.

Wireless technology, via a bluetooth handheld device is used to calculate additional charges and print a receipt. This can be done in the car park, reducing the need to go back to the office. A car can be returned in less than a minute compared to 15 previously.#

100 Avis offices currently use the system. By March, 140 offices and over 60% of returned cars across Europe will be covered by the system. The technology was installed by IT services company Sapient
